What to Expect

School psychologists play a vital role in supporting the mental health and learning of students. At the University of Montana, we offer two nationally recognized graduate pathways:

  1. The Specialist in School Psychology (SSP) — a three-year program preparing you to work in K-12 school settings.
  2. The Ph.D. in School Psychology — a research intensive program preparing you for advanced practice in private settings, hospitals, research, or government.
Both of these programs emphasize evidence-based practice, cultural responsiveness and preparing professionals to meet the needs of today’s diverse school communities.

Support through the RAISE Initiative

Through UM’s RAISE Initiative, graduate students committed to serving rural and Indigenous youth may qualify for three semesters of free tuition, graduate assistantships, and scholarships. This fellowship reduces the cost of students partaking in the Specialist in School of Psychology (SSP) track while expanding access to mental health services across Montana.
