Positively Impact Lives with UM's Online Master of Social Work Degree

The University of Montana’s Online Master of Social Work (MSW) Program is rooted in the values of community, connection, and care. This
60-credit program weaves together clinical and community practice skills from multiple perspectives, preparing students to respond to the needs of individuals, families, and communities with compassion and integrity.

Over the course of three part-time academic years, students complete all coursework online and asynchronously, allowing them to learn within their own communities while engaging deeply with peers, faculty, and field mentors. The program includes 900 hours of practicum experience, meeting requirements for LCSW licensure while grounding students in real-world, relationship-based practice.

Many students complete their practicum where they already work, strengthening the systems and relationships that sustain their communities. Graduates emerge as reflective practitioners and advocates—equipped with the research-based knowledge, therapeutic skill, and ethical grounding to lead with empathy, advance justice, and nurture collective well-being wherever they serve.
